Finally out on Grass

It's only 3 weeks later than what it should be, but as of tonight all the cows are out on grass.

I can't wait!

With all the excitment and buzz around Jr. Nats in KC right now I can't help but get excited for the beginning of the summer juniors shows north of the 49th. Next week is our regional 4-H show and the week after that is Summer Synergy! Synergy is now in its second year as a culmination of 7 junior breed shows into one enormous event held in Olds. More info can be found on their website http://www.summerynergy.ca/ . Since its the beginning of my last year as a junior I can't wait to have a blast and end it off with a bang!

Last 5 AIed today

The last 5 cows were bred to Master of Puppets this morning.Included in this group is the freakiest PB hereford I own, and maybe have ever seen! So now with the conclusion of the breeding season I am eagerly anticipating the calf crop to hit the ground next year, should be awesome. 

Mud

Somebody doesn't like the mud! Lol since it's been raining for a week around here and we've accumulated 8.5 inches of moisture in that time, things have got muddy. Raptor apparently doesn't like the situation and he can be found in this feeder whenever he is not in the creep feeder.

We currently have 12 little cats running around and let me tell you, they are wild! All shapes, sizes, colors, short and long haired. So come on out, if you can catch one you can keep it!

Getting Wet

It's been raining here since Wenesday and it doesn't look like it's stopping any time soon! Wish we could send some of this to the southern states.

Ryan has a great set of purebred simmental cows out at Sangudo. It helps that a past world champion female is included in the group. The bull and female above are TLSS Hussey's Princess and TLSS Pilot, two flushmates out of the very popular Wheatland Red Ace and RF Hussey's Dreamchild. As both parents are past national champions the two have a very strong pedigree and seem poised to continue the tradition of phenomenol animals in this genetic pool.

I was in the Calgary area today and stopped into see the Nixdorff family's YV Ranch. Their current calf crop consisted of calves sired by White Boy, Rainmaker, Golden Child and Wedding Crasher.

Boardwalk heifer For Sale

This one has major potential. The pictures were taken at a month old and as you can see, she's got it going on! Born April 20 our of a solid Angus/Draft Pick cow, this little girl has been phenomenal since the moment she hit the ground. Call Kolby (780) 778-1435

The grass on the other side of the fence

I woke up this morning to find our resident fence jumper peering through the house window at me. She obviously thinks the lawn grass is much better than the green stuff in the pasture. This cow for as long as o can remember has been crawling through or jumping over fences. She also knows how to unlatch gates! Luckily she is frightened of pavement and flat refuses to go on the highway, it's only 200 feet from our house, or she could have been roadkill.

After being rained out for three weeks we finally are getting the seed in the ground! Luckily we only have 200 acres to put in and half of it will be greenfeed.

The 2011 edition of the Flashin' Lights bidoff sale begins tommorow and and runs till the 12th. This year Heaven Cattle Co. has consigned a steer to the sale.

He is the Tag 8 steer, a April 7 Boardwalk x angus/Draft Pick. This calf is extremely attractive, big ribbed and good fronted. He is also quiet as a kitten and would be great for a younger showman.
